A wonderful and warm welcome to all our new and returning students and staff for 2024! With what we expect to be a very busy yet rewarding year ahead, it is important to remember the services The Library offers. We are here to inspire, support, and encourage every stage of your learning journey, and our facilities are the best tool you can use to get the most out of your learning. Here are five (of many!) ways you can utilise The Library to help with your studies!

1. IT Support

Wi-Fi, passwords, Microsoft Office 365, and more! Our team is well-versed in general IT issues and are more than happy to help troubleshoot any tech queries. There is also a range of IT connection tips available here.

2. Physical & Digital Resources

No matter what type of learner you may be, we have a plethora of both physical and digital resources for your studies. We have textbooks across various subjects, study guides for general and specialist knowledges, and study materials aplenty. Furthermore, The Library search function online allows users to target research and retrieve the most accurate and valuable sources for their research. For more on using The Library search, check out this Learning Lounge module.

3. Desktops & Laptop Loans

Both the City and East Campus Libraries have a range of desktops for in-library student and staff use. Laptops are available for loan for the day and can be used across the campus. Our devices are equipped with the latest Microsoft Office and Adobe applications and connected to The Gordon network.

4. Web Tools

We have a wide range of digital tools that are helpful and essential for your studies.

Resource Guides are Library-operated pages that are tailored to your studies. With a page for each course, your resource guide provides current, accurate, and important study tools and industry tips. The pages provide essential materials for your studies—books, eBooks, videos, and images—policies and laws, articles and journals, industry news, relevant industry websites, and select pages dedicated to levels of studies/specific units.

The Referencing Guide is your go-to source for referencing essentials, tips, and tricks. Using the Deakin Harvard Guide, our referencing page is dedicated to explaining the different types of referencing you may need to undertake during assessments.

Alongside the Learning Support team, the Learning Lounge is available to all students and staff through the Gordon Online course tile page. The Learning Lounge is a gateway to a range of resources focusing on specific literacy, numeracy, language, and digital literacy skills. These short modules help users brush up on their skills through both theory and practical exercises.

5. Welcoming Spaces

Finally, our Library spaces are your biggest and best resource for use during your studies! Our welcoming spaces are full of colour, resources, and smiling faces. Unlike a conventional library, we welcome collaboration and noise, food and drink, and positive learning.

Our City Campus has a variety of open spaces for collaboration, quiet booths for positive study, a quiet room for sensory regulation or prayer, and a sunny and vibrant queer-collection corner.

Our East Campus is similarly open-planned, with various desks catered towards both independent and collaborative learning. Alongside a queer-collection corner, the Kitjara Centre is based in the Library at the East Campus.

We wish all of our new and returning students, and all of our staff a very warm welcome to studies in 2024! Feel free to come and visit us in the Library, contact us by email (library@gordontafe.edu.au) or phone (5225 0812), or jump on our chat service for any queries on our services.
