Sources for Images

Here are some sources that staff can use to find legally-free images for use in educational materials (eg: PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, etc).

It's important to remember these two things:

  1. Always look for specific licence conditions and note that the licence conditions can vary for different images on the same site.
  2. Always attribute. It is Gordon policy to attribute all content and this includes images.
Resource About
The Gordon Library databases & Marketing image archive

This is a good place to start because copyright issues have already been addressed when you use images that the Library and Marketing team have cleared for staff use.

Create an image yourself

It can be time consuming to locate an image online that is just right for your purposes. Often it is quicker to grab your phone and take a photo yourself. Or make a quick diagram using Word's SmartArt feature. All images created by Gordon staff in the course of their employment are automatically copyright to The Gordon.

Flickr Many Flickr users have chosen to offer their work for free under a Creative Commons license, and you can browse or search through content under each type of license.
Pixabay All images and videos on Pixabay are released free of copyrights under Creative Commons Zero. You may download, modify, distribute, and use them royalty free for anything you like, even in commercial applications.
