Active Support is a proven model of care that enables and empowers people with intellectual disabilities to participate fully in all aspects of their lives. The authors describe how to engage people with intellectual disabilities in meaningful activity as active participants, and look at the communication style needed to foster positive relationships between carers and the people they are supporting.

Many different groups of people are subject to stereotypes. To better understand how stereotypes affect older adults and individuals with disabilities, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, with support from AARP, convened a public workshop on October 10, 2017. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

This edition of The Disability Support Worker meets the needs of people who adopt a person-centred approach in their work. The Australian text now includes the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and other required reforms consistent with the UN convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.
